While I was researching for a project I found this idea and thought it was super cool. So I thought I would share. I thought about making a blog with some of the ideas I have learned in my preschool curriculum class, which are fun and children would love. If you think you could benefit from the ideas let me know and I will start it. If not I don't want to post stuff and then people not use it. thanks. I got it off education.com in their preschool section and it is from the book Preschool Art: It's the process, not the product. Here it is:
Make Claydoh Beads
What child doesn't love wearable art? Your preschooler will enjoy the hands-on fun of making and shaping homemade clay. When she's done, she'll have a beautiful hand-painted necklace to wear!
What You Need:
- 3/4 cup (150 g) flour
- 1/2 cup (100 g) cornstarch
- 1/2 cup (100 g) salt
- Powdered tempera or powdered vegetable dye for color
- 3/8 cup (90 ml) warm water
- Bowl
- Toothpicks
- String or yarn
- Tempera paint (optional)
- Clear gloss enamel (optional)
What You Do:
- Mix the flour, cornstarch, and salt in a bowl. For colored dough, add powdered tempera or powdered vegetable dye to the mixture.
- Gradually stir in the warm water until the mixture can be kneaded into a stiff dough.
- Have your child knead the dough. Add a little flour if the dough is too sticky to work with.
- Help your child roll the dough into small beads.
- Poke a hole through each bead with a toothpick and let them dry for a few days. Try this trick for drying the beads: stick toothpicks into a ball of Play-Doh, then place one bead on each toothpick. Twist the beads periodically during the drying time to make sure they don't stick to the toothpicks.
- Once the beads have dried competely, you can decorate them with tempera paint or add a glossy finish with clear gloss enamel (optional).
- String the beads on a length of yarn or string. To keep the beads in place, tie knots in the string between each bead.
Now your child has a beautiful homemade clay necklace to show off with her favorite outfit! You can make necklaces, bracelets, anklets—whatever strikes your child's fancy.

I think the Claydough Beads is in my Preschool Art book, is that right? I'm up to 20 books now, so sometimes I can't quite remember which book has what. Funny problem to have!
Thank you again for encouraging people to be creative with kids,

I love your blog idea and promise to read it! I need fun ideas to do with my little preschooler! Is that what you're studying Danielle?! I'd love for Emma to have a preschool teacher like you!!!
Dani, I am actually majoring in Early Childhood/ Special education. Which means after I graduate I can teach preschool, kindergarten-3rd, and special education. When I first graduate I am going to teach elementary until Jacob graduates and then I am going to open a preschool, that I will work at until it gets going enough just to hire people and then I can manage it, but also stay home with our kids.
